Japan Open 2025: Alcaraz Equals Victory Record In One Season

JAKARTA World number one Carlos Alcaraz managed to beat American Brandon Nakashima to reach the semifinals of the ATP 500 Japan Open 2025.

Alcaraz played an incredible game with 25 wins during a quarter-final duel to seal an easy 6-2 and 6-4 win at Ariake Coliseum, Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

"It feels good to qualify and be able to play in the semifinals again. This is special because this is my first time playing here," Alcaraz said as reported by the ATP official website.

This is Alcaraz's 65th win of the season. The record equaled the number of Spanish players' wins in the 2023 tour calendar.

He had lost three match points when he returned to 5-3 in the second set. However, he managed to win four consecutive winners in the next game to seal his victory brilliantly.

"I always say closing matches is difficult. Even more difficult when there are match points, like I experienced," said Alcaraz, who has collected six Grand Slam titles in his career.

Alcaraz will next face Casper Ruud for a place in the final match. The fourth-seeded Norwegian player previously won 6-3 and 6-2 over Aleksandar Vukic.

Alcaraz currently wins 4-1 over Ruud, one of which is won in the final match of the US Open 2022.

However, the Norwegian won the straight set in their last meeting at the 2024 ATP Finals. In addition, he also won a convincing victory in the quarter-finals in Tokyo in just 58 minutes.
