Densely Populated Residential Area In Taman Sari Catches Fire, Losses Reach IDR 28 Billion

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has revealed an estimate of the losses caused by a fire in a densely populated house in Tangki Village, Taman Sari District, West Jakarta.

The Head of the Jakarta BPBD Data Center, M. Yohan, stated that the fire on Sunday, September 28, affected neighborhood units (RT) 002 and 003 in neighborhood unit (RW) 003, followed by neighborhood units (RT) 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008, and 009 in neighborhood unit (RW) 006.

"The estimated losses reach Rp 28.31 billion. The number of affected residents is 321 families, or 1,268 people," Yohan said in a statement on Monday, September 29.

The fire began on Sunday at around 10:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. Twenty-four units from the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) and several other units were deployed to extinguish the fire.

After more than 12 hours, the fire was completely extinguished at 10:50 PM WIB. The fire, which occurred in the residential area, with some semi-permanent buildings, is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

"Six residents suffered minor injuries as a result of this incident," said Yohan.

Currently, 176 affected residents are taking refuge at the Tangki Sub-district Office, and 49 are taking refuge at the Al-Muhajirin Mosque.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has distributed aid in the form of 200 boxes of mineral water, 200 clothing packages, and 200 children's supplies.
