Iran Condemns UN Sanctions On Nuclear Deal, Called Illegal Action
JAKARTA - Iran has again threatened the imposition of UN sanctions as an "illegal" act and accused Europe of abusing the 2015 nuclear deal.
"Efforts to revive resolutions that have been terminated not only have no legal basis and cannot be justified, but are also completely unacceptable in terms of morals and logic," Iran's Foreign Ministry said in an official statement, Sunday.
Tehran insists it will defend its national rights and interests firmly.
"Any move meant to harm the Iranian people will be faced with a precise and decisive response," the statement added.
Secretary of State Abbas Araghchi also sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres regarding the decisions of Britain, France, and Germany (E3) using a back-snap mechanism based on Resolution 2231 to return sanctions for alleged nuclear violations.
"E3, which has violated its obligations under JCPOA and Resolution 2231, no longer has the legitimacy to claim significant violations'. Their move is just a tangible form of process abuse," wrote AragCHI.

He emphasized that the E3 steps were legal and procedural, so they were null and void.
According to him, European countries failed to fulfill their obligations and did not pursue a dispute resolution mechanism (DRM) following the Israeli and US attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities last June.
"The incident changed the situation fundamentally, making the resolution that has been discontinued irrelevant to the current reality," he said.
The UN sanction against Iran again took effect on Sunday for the first time in a decade after the E3 activated a backup mechanism on the grounds that Tehran violated nuclear obligations.
The sanction prohibits activities related to Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs and is expected to have a broad impact on the country's economy.
