Fire Extinguishing In Water Source Constrained Tank Gang

JAKARTA - The process of extinguishing fires in dense residential areas often faces serious challenges. Long water sources, narrow road access, and strong winds often accelerate the spread of fire and make it difficult for officers in the field.

This condition was also seen when a fire hit a settlement in Gang Tangkit, Tamansari, West Jakarta.

"The problem is the source of water, then the house is crowded, the propagation is rather fast. But this is a fire jump, because of the strong winds, the situation is hot, suddenly there is a jump to another RW (from RW 06 to RW 05)," said Head of the Operations Section of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Syarif, at the location, as quoted by ANTARA.

According to him, officers are still trying to extinguish the new hotspots that arise due to the splashes carried by the wind.

"So, we are still focused on extinguishing the fire elsewhere, next to it. So, this fire jump is what causes it to spread to this vast area," he said.

Although there were no casualties, the fire caused four people to suffer minor injuries and shortness of breath.

"Meanwhile, there are victims, minor injuries, they have been handled by the Health Office. Earlier, there was also one more increase, so four, wounds and shortness of breath. Because the smoke is quite thick, the wind is quite good," explained Syarif.

In the video footage uploaded to the Instagram account @warga.jakbar, it can be seen that the flames accompanied by thick black smoke rose high from the middle of a densely populated area. The position of the adjacent buildings exacerbated the spread of the fire, making the handling process last longer.
