Unable To Postpone, President Prabowo Must Prioritize The Police Reform Agenda

JAKARTA - Director of the Red and White Stratejik Institute (MPSI), Noor Azhari, revealed that Polri reform should be one of the main priorities that cannot be postponed again under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.

"The agenda for improving the police is now at an urgent point considering the stronger public spotlight on the integrity, professionalism, and effectiveness of the institution's performance," he said in a written statement, Sunday, September 28, 2025.

He considered that cases of abuse of authority, weak accountability, and the practice of impunity that still occurred made the image of the Police in the eyes of the community decline. In fact, the National Police is a key institution that plays a major role in maintaining domestic security while at the same time supporting national stability.

"The Police's reforms can no longer be postponed. If President Prabowo wants the government's big agenda to be stable, then the police institution must be thoroughly addressed," he added.

Noor also highlighted the issue of the rampant corruption and drug cases within the police who must get special attention. Because with firm law enforcement, indiscriminately, it will give a strong moral message that the police institution does not provide room for tolerance for violations.

According to him, efforts to restore public trust in the police cannot only be measured by restructuring that does not touch cultural changes within the National Police. "The National Police needs to be present humanely, quickly responsive, and more active in social work," he said.

He emphasized that the success of the big agenda of the Prabowo-Gibran government will be difficult to achieve if it does not reform in order to create a professional Polri. We hope that the President will be able to realize this Polri reform. If not, the field of development and national stability will be difficult to achieve without the existence of a professional, clean, and trusted Polri, "concluded Noor.
