Political Campaign In India Ends Tragically, 36 People Died Including Children Due To Crowds

JAKARTA - 36 people, including 8 children, died as a result of being crammed into a political campaign in Tamil Nadu, India Saturday, September 27.

According to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin, as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, September 28, the victims included 16 women.

Tamil Minister Nadu held a meeting with state officials at the Secretariat to review the situation. He also announced the establishment of the Investigative Commission which will be led by Judge Aruna Jagadeesan to investigate the jostling incident.

According to officials, the jostling incident occurred at 19:30 p.m. local time, when Vijay was giving a speech to supporters who had gathered in large numbers since the afternoon.

Stalin, who was leaving for Karur on Saturday, said the situation was "worrying". The government also announced compensation of Rs. 10 Myr (around Rp. 188 million) each to the families of the victims.

Stalin also said that he had instructed Minister Ma Subramanian, Anbil Mahesh, and the District Regent to immediately provide support to the affected communities.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congressional leader Rahul Gandhi, and others expressed their condolences for the tragic incident.

President Murmu expressed his condolences for the tragic loss of life in the incident and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Modi, who expressed his condolences for the incident, said: "The unfortunate incident that occurred in a political campaign in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is very sad."

"My prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for them to be given strength in this difficult time. I pray that all those who are injured will recover soon," he said.
