Short Video Trends Increase, YouTube Makes Sure Long Videos Keep Growing

JAKARTA - The latest 2025 Digital Report, April Global Statshot Report from We Are Social, shows that the short video format is a spectacle that internet users like the most.

Where this report states, as many as 87.5 percent of online adults admit that they watch formats like TikTok and Reels every week.

Furthermore, data from GWI also sees people spending more time watching short videos than watching long videos such as vlog and show to guide.

Despite the increasing trend of short videos, YouTube insists that the growth of their short video content in Shorts does not make long videos lose interest.

According to Indonesia's Country Head Youtube, Suwandi Widjaja, all video formats, both Shorts, long forms, and live streaming on YouTube, are still growing in balance in Indonesia.

"On Youtube, because our platform doesn't focus on just one type of format, right. Short form, we have long form, we even have live, there are all of them. We see everything grows as expected. That means there is no one immunization," he explained when met on Friday, September 26 in Jakarta.

He also emphasized that YouTube is trying to be fair in improving every content format on its platform.

"So we really don't want to focus on one of them, just push for short, at the expense of a long form," added Suwandi further.
