CEPA Indonesia Canada Officially Signed, Prabowo Calls Strategic Steps To Strengthen The Economy
JAKARTA - The signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and Canada is considered by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to be a major breakthrough in the economic relations between the two countries.
"In Canada, we also got a breakthrough, we succeeded in signing the CEPA, yes Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. So the free trade between Canada and Indonesia is also a breakthrough. We have been with Europe for 10 years, with Canada also breaking through," Prabowo said at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, September 27.
The President emphasized that the agreement would strengthen trade cooperation, open new market access, and lower tariff barriers for Indonesia's superior products. CEPA and Canada complement similar achievements with the European Union that have been fighting for since a decade ago.
The signing and Announcement of the CEPA Substance Agreement between Indonesia and Europe was held in Bali, last Tuesday (23/9) between the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and the Economic Security of the European Commission Maro Badminton.
Prabowo assessed that the series of visits to the United Nations, Canada and the Netherlands brought concrete results both in the field of diplomacy and economic cooperation.
"I think thank God my visit brought benefits," he said.
