Invite Community And Nutritionists To Discuss Mass Poisoning, DPR Is Considered To Be Looking For Solutions To MBG

JAKARTA - Political communication observer Silvanus Alvin appreciates the attitude of the DPR RI which remains clear in finding solutions related to various problems in the Nutrition Food (MBG) program, amid the insistence on stopping President Prabowo Subianto's priority program due to cases of mass poisoning. Namely by looking for a middle way related to various MBG problems by listening to input from experts.
"The steps taken by Commission IX of the DPR RI which presented a number of nutritionists, maternal and child health, as well as civil society organizations in hearings regarding the MBG program show awareness that the problems that have arisen so far are not just technical errors, but systemic problems that need to be addressed," said Alvin in Jakarta, Saturday, September 27.
"With so many cases of mass poisoning that befell school children, the DPR is trying to explore fundamental solutions so that this program does not continue to be a public health threat," he continued.

Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives recently conducted an audience with a number of experts regarding the MBG program which received public attention after a number of mass poisoning cases occurred in various regions.
In the meeting which took place on September 22, 2025, a number of civil society organizations, such as the Indonesian Education Monitoring Network (JPPI), the Center for Indonesia's Strategic Development Initiatives (CISDI), and the Mother and Child Health Movement (GKIA), provided input on findings related to the quality of food in the MBG program.
Alvin also assessed that the DPR took a strategic position by not immediately calling for the termination of the MBG program even though many cases of food poisoning had occurred. "I think it is important to appreciate the DPR's stance which remains clear in finding alternative solutions to improvement in the midst of heavy pressure to stop MBG," said Alvin.
"The DPR takes a strategic position: not immediately calling for a termination, but encouraging improvement in governance, transparency, and the involvement of more relevant actors such as schools and parent committees," he continued.
According to Alvin, this step reflects the DPR's efforts to maintain a balance between the need for critical evaluation of the MBG program and the fact that MBG is a National Strategic Program (PSN) that contains both political and social dimensions.
"Hopefully the DPR can provide corrective steps so that the nation's children's hopes do not become victims," said Alvin.
Alvin saw a quick response from the DPR regarding the MBG poisoning case as a tangible manifestation of improving the board's performance in carrying out its supervisory function and ensuring that the Government's program runs more safely and transparently.
"The DPR's attitude in responding to the MBG issue can be read as part of efforts to restore public trust. The DPR also proves that they have learned from the public's strong criticism and are now trying to carry out the supervisory function more correctly and substantively," concluded Alvin.
Previously in a meeting with Commission IX of the DPR, the Indonesian Education Monitoring Network (JPPI) stated that it recorded an increase in cases of poisoning of the MBG program which reached more than a thousand in a week.
Since its first release on September 14, 2024, MBG poisoning cases have reached 5,360 cases. Now, as of September 21, the number has increased to 6,452 cases, an increase of 1,092 cases in a week.
Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR, Charles Honoris believes that there can be more. I gave an example of 97 students who were victims of MBG poisoning in Lagoa Village, North Jakarta some time ago who were not exposed by the media.
Even so, Charles said the proposal to stop MBG is currently difficult to do. This is because MBG is a strategic program of the Prabowo government, whose budget has been prepared. Thus, the solution that needs to be done is to reduce the number of poisonings.
"But at this time the President feels that this program is strategic and the budget has also been prepared," said Charles Honoris.
"We want to prevent this. We want to prevent cases of recurrence of poisoning. We want to prevent the state budget from being wasted. We also want to see that this noble goal can be achieved," he said.
