Foreign Minister Sugiono Emphasized The Important Role Of BRICS In Encouraging Inclusive, Fair And Effective Global Governance
JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the important role of BRICS member countries in global governance reforms.
This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Sugiono while attending the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting which was held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, United States on Friday local time.
Marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations' founding, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the importance of reforms so that multilateral institutions remain responsive, effective, and relevant to the challenges of the times.
Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that the UN80 Initiative and Pact for the Future should be used as a momentum to strengthen multilateralism, and emphasized the important role of BRICS in encouraging more inclusive, fair and effective global governance.
Regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Foreign Minister Sugiono highlighted the slow achievement with only 15 percent of the SDGs targets being on track as well as a financing gap of up to 4 trillion US dollars for developing countries.
"The General Assembly session this time must produce political will and resources to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, launching a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saturday, September 27.

In this regard, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the important role of BRICS in supporting development financing as well as encouraging more just global financial governance.
Closing his statement, Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to continue working with BRICS in realizing a more just, inclusive and effective international order.
He also expressed Indonesia's full support for the chairmanship of Brazil, and was looking forward to close cooperation with India as the next Chair of the BRICS.
