Leoni Injured, Liverpool Aims For Upamecano

JAKARTA - Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Bayern Munich regulars after Giovanni Leoni's injury.

Bild reports that the Reds are eyeing Bayern Munich centre-back Dayot Upamecano. Liverpool are exploring various options to strengthen their defense.

The French player will soon enter the last six months of his contract at the Allianz Arena. However, Liverpool will face competition from Real Madrid who is also hunting for central defenders.

Apart from having to fight with Real Madrid, Liverpool also seems to be difficult to bring in the 26-year-old.

You see, Bayern Munich views Upamecano as a key player and is expected to start talks on contract extensions in the near future.

At least, the deal must be completed before the winter exchange in January 2026. Otherwise, clubs outside Germany can negotiate a precontract agreement with Upamecano.

Liverpool's desire cannot be separated from the ACL injury experienced by Leoni in his debut against Southampton at the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

The defender, who had just been bought from Parma in the summer exchange, is expected to be out for about a year.
