JAKARTA - United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed the situation surrounding Ukraine and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the High Level Week of the United Nations 80th General Assembly.

"Detailed discussions of the most pressing international issues, including the situation surrounding Ukraine and in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone, have taken place," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry further said Foreign Minister Lavrov also underlined the importance of an "dispartial and equal approach" to the UN Secretariat on this issue, in accordance with Article 100 of the UN Charter.

They also discussed "issues urging global organizational reform in the context of UN80 UN Secretary-General initiatives," the ministry continued.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Lavrov underlined that these changes must be calibrated properly, and maintain an organizational institutional framework.

According to him, changes must be carried out "under the strict control of member states and get the widest possible support," the ministry said.

Russia and the United Nations have also expressed their strong determination to strengthen cooperation.

"The Russian side underlines its commitment to the central coordination role of the global organization in global affairs, and to the principles of the UN Charter as a whole," the ministry said.
