Not Yet Discussed Freeport Sanctions, Bahlil Still Waiting For Evaluation Results And Focus On Searching For Longsor Mining Victims

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that until now his party has not discussed the sanctions that will be given to PT Freeport Indonesia regarding landslides that occurred at the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) land bwah mine.

Bahlil said that currently PT Freeport is still focused on searching for 5 workers who are still trapped and have not been found by the rescue team.

"I haven't thought about sanctions yet, I'm thinking about how the victims should be evacuated first. My brain and friends think about completing the evacuation of victims first. After that, we will evaluate it," Bahlil told the media crew at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Friday, September 26.

The chairman of the Golkar Party said that discussions regarding sanctions would only be carried out after the evaluation process was completed. Meanwhile, the evaluation process will be carried out after all workers trapped in landslides are found.

'Sanctions appear when there is an evaluation. But until now there has been no evaluation. So I haven't thought about follow-up than that," Bahlil explained.

Bahlil also explained that so far the PTFI rescue team had found two of the five workers trapped.

The two workers were found dead. The two victims who were found have been identified as Irawan (46) and Wigih Hartono (37).

Meanwhile, the five other workers who have not been found are Victor Manuel Bastida Ballesteros, Holong Gembira Silaban, Dadang Hermanto, Zaverius Magai and Balisang Telile.

Bahlil also said that currently the Ministry of Energy and Mine Inspector of Energy and Mineral Resources was at the location to monitor the search and then evaluate the incident.

My team was also there, the Director of Mine Inspectors, and several other Mining Inspectors were at the location, in Temporapura, reporting that the process was still ongoing and there was no activity whatsoever. It concerns Freeport's current condition," said Bahlil.
