Take A Peek At The Future Of Electric Motorcycles From Ducati V21L, The First Motor That Uses Solid State Battery
JAKARTA - In the world, solid-state battery types of electric vehicles are very promising from a longer distance, super fast charging, higher security, to longer lifespan.
As a result, many car manufacturers and battery manufacturers are competing to create these solid-state batteries and can be realized soon into production cars.
However, it is different from the Volkswagen Group which made a surprise at the IAA Munich exhibition some time ago by showing off Ducati V21L's electric motorcycle from the MotoE series powered by solid-state batteries.
This Ducati motorbike is the first vehicle of the VW Group to be officially powered by a solid-state lithium-metal battery developed by QuantumScape and PowerCo. This move demonstrates VW's serious commitment to making this technology competitive and profitable.
Volkswagen Group has even claimed the demonstration of this technology as the next milestone on its journey from laboratory to production.
Despite the enormous potential presented, demonstrations on stage in Munich are still very limited, where the motor is only seen moving forward as far as about 4.5 meters below its own power. This underscores that this technology is still in its early development stage.
However, future targets are clear. Reporting from Autoweek, quoted Friday, September 26, QuantumScape CEO Siva Sivaram who was present at the event, said that their goal was to present commercial automotive cells before the end of the decade.

Ducati V21L's Role
VW Group selected Ducati V21L, a motorbike specification for the MotoE FIM racing series, for this demonstration. Ducati explained that the MotoE project was originally created to build internal knowledge within the company, in preparation for creating road electric motors in the future.
In the MotoE project, the evolution of battery cells has resulted in a weight reduction of up to 18 pounds (about 8 kg) in battery packs. Although significant, this heavy savings is still inadequate to make electric racing motorcycles have a weight and reach that is comparable to that of an internal combustion engine racing motorbike.
Therefore, collaboration with VW Group, PowerCo, and QuantumScape is important. Ducati continues to work together to test new technologies to create battery packages with a much higher energy density.
Although the process of making solid-state batteries that function, are affordable, and can be mass-produced is still a big challenge, the emergence of Ducati V21L on the IAA Munich stage provides great hope for the acceleration of the global EV transition.
