Minister Of Industry Surprised That Mamin Halal RI Products Are Ranked 4th In The World, Even Though Muslim Population Countries Are The Largest
TANGERANG - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita admitted that she was surprised by the position of the Indonesian halal food and beverage industry being ranked fourth in the world. In fact, Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world and the potential for the domestic market is also the same.
This was conveyed by Agus at the Indo 2025 Halal event at ICE BSD, Tangerang Regency, Banten, Thursday, September 25.
"Halal food is ranked fourth, you know. Which one is Gapmmi (Indonesian Food Producers Association)? No? Fourth place, imagine," said Agus.
Agus explained that the Indonesian halal food industry is under Malaysia, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Meanwhile, for the fashion fashion industry, it is ranked first and second in the halal pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors.
The rating is based on the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report (SGIER) 2024/2025 report. Even so, Indonesia occupies the third position in the global halal industry ecosystem.
Although the national score increased significantly, according to Agus, the rating was still far from the great potential it had. Indonesia's own score experienced the highest increase compared to other countries, which jumped 19.8 points to 99.9.
This is supported by household consumption which reached IDR 3,226 trillion until the first semester of 2025 and the Muslim population of 245 million people.

"In general, Indonesia ranks third in the halal industry ecosystem. This is our record, Indonesia is the largest population, the largest Muslim population in the world, but only ranked third in the development of the halal industry ecosystem, under Malaysia and Saudi Arabia," explained Agus.
In the report, the assessment was carried out through five main components, namely finance, halal regulations, public awareness, social and innovation.
