Pocket Of Rp35 T Reclamation Guarantee From Mining Company, KESDM: Stored In Government Bank

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed that it has pocketed at least IDR 30 trillion to IDR 35 trillion as a post-mining reclamation guarantee from mining companies.

Director General of Mineral and Coal, Tri Winarno, said the jumbo funds had been placed in a state-owned bank.

"If the total value for reclamation and post-mining is currently around Rp. 30 trillion-Rp. 35 trillion and placed in government banks," said Director General of Mineral and Coal Tri Winarno, Thursday, September 25.

Tri said that currently there are 190 mining business permits (IUP) for minerals and coal that are still being suspended by the government. The suspension is temporary and will be granted another permit if it fulfills the obligation to place post-mining reclamation guarantee funds.

"When the company has made payments, then reports to us, we will reopen (the permit)," Tri continued.

Tri ensures that permits will only be granted if the company complies and does its obligations. Thus the government will allow the company to continue mining activities.

"If the company is sufficient, we will open the company for activities again," he explained.

Previously, the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal had frozen the operational activities of 190 coal and mineral mining companies that did not provide post-mining reclamation guarantees.

The freezing of 190 companies was stated in a letter from the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with Number T-1533/MB.07/DJB.T/2025 and signed on September 18, 2025.

The letter stated that the temporary suspension of mining activities would automatically be canceled if the company had received a letter of stipulation and placed a reclamation guarantee until 2025.
