Strobo Light History: From World War II Shifted To Road User Arrogance

YOGYAKARTA The use of strobe lights in private vehicles always reaps negative sentiment. Many people think that private vehicles that deliberately use strobe lights are often accompanied by arrogant driving. This condition makes people compact against illegal strobes. Apart from the controversy, the history of the strobe lights is actually used for positive purposes.

Reporting from extremathistic dynamics, strobe lights are flashy lights installed for emergency vehicles, can be installed in ambulances, fire trucks, or police vehicles. The word strobe' itself comes from Greek, namely stobos which means a spinning.

Astrobo lights are designed to produce bright flashes of light continuously. With the flash of light, other road users can listen more to the arrival of vehicles that are fitted with strobo.

History of the use of strobe emergency lights can be traced in the era of World War II. At that time Germany wore a blue emergency camp as temporary lighting in an emergency. When air threats arise, Germany will embezzle the city and replace it with a strobe blue light. The blue election was due to the color that would make it difficult for enemy aircraft to detect land.

Then in 1938, Germany began installing blue warning lights for emergency vehicles. The lighting was installed so that the vehicle could be easily distinguished. Shortly thereafter the lights were mounted on a police vehicle.

Reporting from international signs, in 1948, the world police began to popularize turning lights and flickering as well as easily attracting the attention of others. Initially, the strobo that was popularized was shaped like a tower, but slowly it turned into elongated shape.

Not only is the shape growing, but the color of the strobe light is starting to change. From what was originally only blue slowly and then combined with red. The selection of a combination of blue-red strobo is also quite reasonable.

According to research by Loughborough University in the UK, blue strobe lights will be easy to detect at night, when the lights turn on and in the middle of heavy traffic. While the red color will be easy to detect during the day, or when the fog is thick.

Although intended for a positive purpose, the installation of strobe lights cannot be separated from debate. Because the excessive strobe flash will interfere with the visibility of other road users.

Reporting from Antara, Automotive Expert of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Yannes Martinus Pasaribu emphasized that the use of strobe lights in private vehicles will endanger the safety of road users.

He emphasized that the strobe, rotator, and siren were designed for emergency vehicles. When used in civilian vehicles, other road users have the potential to experience a decrease in concentration, panic, and trigger adaptive maneuvers.

Strobo fighters and siren sounds can hurt people, make people lose focus, even increase the risk of accidents, especially when visibility is low," he explained.

He also said that the use of thestrobe has strict rules, namely in Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation. If the strobe is installed in a private vehicle, it means violating the rules and threatening mutual safety.
