Giring Ganesha Ensures That The 2025 Indonesian Music Conference Results In The Best Regulations For The National Music Ecosystem

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Culture (Wamenbud) Giring Ganesha, ensured that the Ministry of Culture (Kemenbud) as the initiator, provided full support for the 2025 Indonesian Music Conference (KMI) which will be held in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, KMI 2025 is a continuation of the long journey of the Indonesian music ecosystem which began to be mapped since KMI in Ambon in 2018 and in Bandung in 2019. Later, music actors and related policy makers will meet for a better national music ecosystem.

This year's conference, which was held on October 8-10, was continued by Jakarta Music Con on October 11 and 12, lifting the big theme "One Basic Nada." This theme is not just a symbol, but a joint commitment to strengthen the foundation of the music industry, unite the interests of the perpetrators, and place a long-term direction towards a just, competitive, and culturally sovereign music ecosystem.

Giring said that the KMI 2025 is expected to give birth to several recommendations for regulated music management in Indonesia. He ensured that there were no recommendations that would create elements of freedom from the injured music.

"Recommendations on regulations will not be to curb. I am sure that music can't be regulated, because it's a work of art. In fact, we will formulate governance. So far, (management) has never been formulated, the roadmap doesn't exist yet, and the regulations don't exist yet," said Giring during a press conference in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, September 24.

"We will also discuss the sustainability of traditional music. So there is no regulation to curb it. In fact, there are regulations that develop Indonesian music industry and governance," he added.

Giring continued, KMI 2205 is also a momentum for lawmakers in capturing aspirations for the revision of the Copyright Law (UUHC) which is currently underway.

"This momentum is also used for the Ministry of Law to explain future programs, providing updates (UUHC revisions) as well as possible," he said.

"We will also invite formulators to attend. Because to formulate the law, they must also listen from across sectors," he added.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto gave a special emphasis so that the implementation of the KMI 2025 ensures the involvement of all elements of the music ecosystem. The directive was strengthened by the Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, so that this conference actually presented the full face of Indonesian music: from musicians of various genres, workers on stage, regulators across ministries and institutions, Collective Management Institutions, professional associations, to market players such as digital music platforms.

"I represent Minister Fadli Zon to say thank you. See you later at KMI, and hopefully this will become a platform for us," he said. We at the Ministry can only be a facilitator, in the end it will determine the direction, governance, and others, we will return it to our respective communities.

"So, hopefully later at KMI, we will get together, we will be united, and God willing, Indonesia in the future can really become the epicenter for music growth. Like Bung Glenn's dream, Indonesia can also become a world music city," concluded Giring.
