Animal Evidence Of Smuggling Dies When Entrusted To BKSDA Aceh
BANDA ACEH - Langsa Customs and Excise stated that three animals that were evidence of animal smuggling cases, all died when entrusted to the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA).
Head of the Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office of the Customs Type (KPPBC TMP) C Langsa Dwi Harmawanto, said the dead animals were three mara patagonia rabbits.
"We are still waiting for evidence and reports from the BKSDA regarding the death of the animal. The three animals are evidence that was deposited with the BKSDA," said Lansa, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, September 25.
Dwi Harmawanto said the animal was the result of smuggling against a suspect in Madat District, East Aceh Regency, in June 2025.
He said the animal was evidence in the trial, so it needed official administrative completeness before further action could be carried out.
"The Customs and Excise cannot take further steps because the animal's status is evidence. We are waiting for the minutes from the BKSDA as an administrative basis for its condition," said Dwi Harmawanto.
He also emphasized that the death of these animals cannot be immediately considered negligent from any party. If there is evidence in the form of animals, there is a risk that cannot be avoided.
"Animals or animals can get sick at any time or even die. That is a risk that must be understood in handling living evidence," said Dwi Harmawanto.
Previously, Langsa Customs and Excise submitted animal evidence to the BKSDA in the form of two striped sigungs, one macaw bird, and six patagonia rabbits.

Then, Langsa Customs and Excise asked BKSDA to hand over the animal that was entrusted to evidence at trial. However, three rabbits were not handed over and found dead.
"We will continue to wait for the completeness of documents from the BKSDA as a form of caution in handling cases involving protected animals," said Dwi Harmawanto.
