Exploring Stoicism, Ruang Senja Presents a Single Titled Tak Semua Dalam Kendalimu

JAKARTA - Bandung-based folk duo Ruang Senja are once again welcoming Indonesian music fans with their latest single, "Tak Semua Dalam Kendalimu" (Not Everything Is in Your Control).

This song paves the way for their second album, scheduled for release on the Pro-M label. Interestingly, this latest work is inspired by the ancient philosophy of Stoicism, which teaches inner peace and a focus on the things we can control.

According to Fajar Taufik Hidayat, guitarist and songwriter, "Tak Semua Dalam Kendalimu" was born from his personal experience.

"This song was written by guitarist Fajar when he was at his lowest point, and had fallen as low as he could," Fajar said in a statement on Wednesday, September 24.

In that moment, Fajar found inspiration from Stoicism, the understanding that many things out there are beyond our control, and accepting this is the key to moving forward.

This philosophy teaches that suffering often stems from our response to events, not from the events themselves. By distinguishing between what can and cannot be controlled, one can achieve inner peace.

Similarly, through this song, Fajar wants to convey a message of optimism. "When something turns out to be beyond your control, it's not a big deal, and you have to remain optimistic and keep moving forward," he explained.

The message in this song is felt to be relevant to the mental state of modern society, which often feels anxious about things beyond their control.

In addition to releasing the opening single, Ruang Senja is also preparing material for their second full-length album. While the single "Tak Semua Dalam Kendalimu" explored Stoicism, this album promises to carry broader themes.

"The songs on this album are more varied and each song has a strong character, leaning more towards positive things and self-motivation," explained Eriza Triwiguna (vocals and mandolin).

This variety of themes aligns with the trend in contemporary folk music, which now focuses not only on themes of love but also explores social issues, motivation, and self-reflection. The ethnic feel that is Ruang Senja's hallmark will be maintained in this second album.

The addition of local instruments not only enriches the arrangement, but also emphasizes their identity as Indonesian musicians who are proud of their culture.
