Korea Open 2025: Alwi Silences Malaysia's Representative

JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player, Alwi Farhan, silenced Malaysia's representative, Leong Jun Hao, to secure the ticket to the second round of the Korea Open 2025.

Alwi was forced to fight for 61 minutes in a dramatic two-game match that ended with a tight score of 21-19, 26-24 on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

"Alhamdulillah, it was a very exciting match that I finally won. I was able to carry out the strategy quite well. There was a feeling of lust and tension at the end of the second game, but I was able to overcome it," said Alwi.

The match has been tight since the first game, forcing the two to take turns scoring until the score was 7-7. Alwi missed three points after that before rising and leading the interval.

The numbers after that were also exciting, but Alwi never struggled to get back from behind again.

The start of the second game was also tense and Alwi finally took the lead with a narrow two-point advantage at the break. He then took the lead 18-14 before the dramatic duel took place and resulted in a long pace.

"Earlier, especially in the second game, when the key was tight, the key was calmer. The focus of his mind, but even if he lost, there was still a third game. From there I could be more relieved and legowo," said Alwi.

This result is Alwi's turning point after the previous tournament at the 2025 China Masters Super 750 BWF last week, his journey ran aground in the first half.

"Last week at the China Masters there was indeed a sense of disappointment because it could be said that the defeat was not optimal, my character was lost. I want to reply in this tournament," said Alwi.

In the next round, Alwi will meet Lee Cheuk Yiu. The Hong Kong men's singles escaped after beating the men's singles from China, Lu Guang Zu.

Alwi is the third Indonesian men's singles who got tickets for the round of 16. He followed his seniors Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie.
