Walt Disney Raises Disney+ Subscription Prices In The US

JAKARTA Walt Disney plans to increase the price of its streaming service, Disney+, in the United States. This price increase will take effect on October 21 according to the company's statement.

The company deliberately raised the cost of its platform to increase the profits of its digital platform. Currently, Disney is trying to make its streaming business its first growing engine.

Launching from Reuters, Disney+ packages with previously priced ads of US$2 (Rp.33 thousand) will be increased to US$11.99 (Rp200 thousand) per month. Meanwhile, premium packages without ads will rise from US$3 (Rp50 thousand), to US$18.99 (Rp317 thousand) per month.

Not only monthly, the annual subscription price for premium packages will also be increased. The cost will increase from 30 US dollars (Rp501 thousand) to 189.99 US dollars (Rp 3.1 million).

Disney+'s combined package with Hulu and ESPN+ also experienced an increase in costs. This is Disney's fourth year of increasing its service costs in a row. Previously, the company raised prices in December 2022, October 2023, and 2024.

It is not yet known whether this increase in costs will have an impact on other countries. However, usually this price increase will also be felt by other countries, but adjusted to the rules in force in each country.

Disney isn't the only streaming platform that has implemented price increases. Earlier this year, Netflix also raised subscription fees on its platform at a much higher price. The Premium package even reached 24.99 US dollars (Rp406 thousand) per month.
