DPR Asks TNI-Polri To Fire And Criminal Sanctions Officials Who Beat Civilians

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR Abdullah asked the TNI-Polri to provide a deterrent effect in the form of criminal sanctions to dismissal of officers who beat civilians.

This was conveyed by Abdullah in response to an online motorcycle taxi driver (ojol) named Teguh Sukma who was beaten by a member of the Indonesian Navy, Letda FA in Pontianak.

The violence by the authorities, in the form of beating civilians, must be given a deterrent effect. Law enforcement institutions must give strict sanctions in the form of dismissal and criminal sanctions in accordance with applicable legal regulations," Abdullah said, Wednesday, September 24.

Abdullah assessed that violent incidents by police officers and the TNI were always repeated. In fact, he said, students and students also often become victims of violence during demonstrations.

"Currently, ojol drivers and employees who were victims, previously there were teachers, students and students who were victims of violent beatings, who else would be the victims?" Abdullah said.

Therefore, Abdullah asked the Police and the TNI to enforce the law against the perpetrators of violent beatings in a transparent, fair and non-discriminatory manner.

According to him, strict sanctions are needed to stop violence by officers who continue to repeat and maintain people's trust.

"Strengthen the law against perpetrators of violent beatings in a transparent, fair and non-discriminatory manner. This is intended to maintain people's trust in the Polri and TNI institutions," said the man who is familiarly called Abduh.

"If the opposite is done, a similar incident will repeat itself and of course the institution will lose the trust of the people," he continued.

He emphasized that Commission III of the DPR will oversee law enforcement in cases of violence against civilians. This supervision, said Abduh, is a form of DPR's commitment to protecting and fulfilling citizens' rights and supporting President Prabowo Subianto's legal reform work program.

"The state must be present to protect its citizens from all forms of violence by whoever does it by enforcing the law in a professional and with integrity," Abdullah concluded.

It was reported that online motorcycle taxi driver Teguh Sukma Akbar (48) had to undergo treatment at Medika Djaya Hospital Pontianak after being beaten by an individual member of the TNI, Letda FA on Saturday, September 20 afternoon. The resident of West Pontianak complained of shortness of breath after his nose was broken, followed by the perpetrator.

The incident began when the perpetrator admitted to rushing to the hospital, but got emotional because the victim kept turning the horn on. The two got into an argument until the commotion ended with a beating.

In addition to the case of beating ojol drivers by members of the TNI, Faisal also experienced a case of abuse, an employee of artist Zaskia Adya Mecca who was taking his son to school. Faisal was beaten by a motorcyclist who claimed to be a member who was often interpreted as a member of the apparatus.

Faisal's beating was carried out by a motorcycle rider who allegedly went against the direction on Jalan Ampera Raya, South Jakarta on Monday, September 22. Because he did not accept the victim's passing, the pink Vespa motorcycle user who claimed to be a member then beat Faisal until Zaskia's son who witnessed the incident was traumatized. The evidence in the form of CCTV for the incident has also spread and went viral.
