Perumda Pasar Jaya Revitalization And Modernization 135 Markets Since 2023
JAKARTA The President Director of Perumda Pasar Jaya, Agus Himawan, emphasized that the transformation of the people's market is a strategic step to encourage Jakarta as a global city.
Agus explained that since he took office in August 2023, Pasar Jaya has accelerated the revitalization and modernization program in 153 markets.
" Significant changes can be seen in physical improvements, increased facilities, and strengthening governance," Agus said in a discussion at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, September 24.
As of September 2025, 67 markets have been repainted with new corporate colors accompanied by repairs to toilets, parking areas, parks, and escalators.
Market revitalization is carried out through three financing schemes, namely internal funds, Regional Capital Participation (PMD), as well as partnerships with the private sector. A number of markets that are included in private cooperation schemes include Pramuka Market, Iron Bridge, Senen Block 6, and Pasar Minggu.
In addition to the physical aspect, Pasar Jaya is also building an independent waste processing center at the Kramat Jati Main Market in collaboration with PT LAPI ITB.
"This facility is targeted to be completed in May 2026 and is capable of processing 95 percent of organic waste directly at the location," said Agus.
Digitalization is also accelerated. The non-cash payment system is in effect in 57 markets, while digital management is implemented in 30 markets. This year, an additional 30 markets are included in the digitalization program," he continued.
Pasar Jaya also developed the concept of housing above the market through a 60-year building ownership certificate (SKBG). The first project in the Pasar Rumput Flats has now been filled with 85 percent with the majority of millennials, ASN, and private workers.
"Five other strategic locations, such as Pasar Minggu and Pasar Senen, are prepared for similar development," he said.

Meanwhile, Assistant for the Economy and Finance of the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary, Suharini Eliawati, emphasized the vital role of the market in the capital's economy.
Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Jakarta's contribution to the national GDP reached 16.61 percent with a growth of 5.18 percent, exceeding the national figure.
"The market is the pulse of the Jakarta economy. Modernization must not erase the value of the people, it must actually strengthen it," said Suharini.
He said that the DKI Provincial Government is working on the concept of the thematic market, including making Pasar Baru a cultural tourist destination that is integrated with the heritage area of Central Jakarta. According to him, the main challenge for the people's market is competition with online trade.
"Revitalization must be followed by fair tariffs and consumer convenience, so that the market is not only magnificent but also alive," he added.
