Korea Open 2025: Women Keep A Clean Record Against Upadhyaya

JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani managed to maintain an unbeaten record against Anupadhyaya from India to reach the second round of the Korea Open 2025.

The fourth seed repatriated Upadhyaya after going through two straight games 21-16 and 21-15 at Suwon Gymnasium, South Korea, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, afternoon WIB.

"Compared to the previous meeting, Anupama has changed quite a bit, either from her strength or way of playing. She is stronger in her leg strength and plays more aggressively attacking," said Putri after the match.

During this meeting, Putri appeared dominant in the first game after 3-3. He scored seven points in a row after that and his opponent did not move.

Upadhyaya then gave a tight fight in the middle of the second game after Putri had taken the 9-4 lead. He even turned ahead before losing momentum after the same score 14-14.

"After winning and being chased, there was a little panic from me, but thank God at that moment I was able to return to the front game and keep the blow from widening or extending," said Putri.

The latest victory made Putri sharpen her winning record to 4-0 against Anupama Upadhyaya. Two of that amount were obtained in this year's tour calendar.

Putri, who is the only Indonesian women's singles in this tournament, will then face Pai Yu Po. The Chinese Taipei representative qualified for the second round after beating Tereza Svabikova from the Czech Republic.

Apart from Putri, the victory was also secured by Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu. The pair qualified for the second round thanks to a victory over Leong Iok Chong/Ng Weng Chi from Macau.

In the second round, Jafar/Felisha, who is the eighth seed, will face Danish representatives, namely the Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Boje pair.

From mixed doubles, a total of only two representatives reached the second half of the three. Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah got one other ticket.
