Menpora Affirms Single Event At PSSI Is Not Funded By The Government

JAKARTA - The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, said that the Government did not fund PSSI to participate in single events.

Erick Thohir said, who also serves as Chairman of PSSI, funding support from the Government is only for multi-event events, such as the SEA Games, Asian Games, Olympics, and others.

"I have consulted with the BPK (Financial Audit Agency) earlier. We have agreed that of course PSSI cannot get government funding, especially single events," Erick Thohir said at a press conference in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Even so, funding support for multi-event events will also be re-examined by the BPK because it applies to all sports.

"So, I still prioritize caution," he said.

Erick explained that the most important task in his position as Menpora is to pay attention to all sports. PSSI, which is also under the auspices of it, is only one of all prioritized branches.

Furthermore, the Minister of Youth and Sports explained that the closest multi-event event to be participated in is the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand in December.

The budget supply for the event, he said, is currently only worth Rp. 10 billion. With the existing budget conditions, the number of athletes who can be sent to the Southeast Asian country's multi-event event is around 120 athletes.

Therefore, his party has not yet determined the target for medals in the upcoming SEA Games because apart from waiting for budget support, many of Indonesia's leading sports events are not contested.

"Yes, wait for the budget first, if it's Rp. 10 billion, only 120 athletes means, yes, we'll see how much gold," he said.
