Foreign Minister Sugiono: President Prabowo Conveys Indonesia's Availability Of Contribution In The Peace Process In The Middle East

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianton expressed Indonesia's willingness to contribute to a series of peace processes in the Middle East, said Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said this was conveyed by President Prabowo in a limited meeting held by the United States and attended by a number of leaders and representatives from Arab League member countries and Islamic Cooperation Organizations (OKI) on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

The meeting entitled "Multilateral Meeting on the Middle East" was held in the UN Security Council Consultation Room, United Nations Headquarters, New York.

"President Prabowo expressed Indonesia's willingness to contribute to a series of processes (peace), Indonesia's willingness to send peacekeeping troops if needed at the UN mandate," Foreign Minister Sugiono said in a video statement from New York as quoted Wednesday, September 24.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said the essence of the meeting gave President Trump an overview of the actual situation, a picture of the atmosphere in the region felt by several Middle Eastern countries around Palestine.

The meeting also called on the leadership of the United States in order to resolve problems in Palestine and the Gaza Strip.

"Earlier, hope was conveyed regarding US involvement in order to achieve a ceasefire, achieve peace, as well as future efforts to achieve the Two-State Solution," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

Meanwhile, speaking next to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President Trump stressed his determination to immediately stop the conflict and ensure the release of hostages.

"This will be a very important meeting. This meeting will bring together big leaders from a very important part of the world, namely the Middle East. And we want to end the war in Gaza. We will end it," said President Trump, opening the meeting, launching a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Trump reiterated the importance of this meeting for peace efforts in the Middle East.

"This is a very important meeting for me because we are going to end something that should never happen. Thank you very much, everyone. We really appreciate it," he said.

Apart from President Trump and President Prabowo, the meeting was also attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Emir Qatari Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani, Jordanian King Abdullah II, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

It said those invited to this meeting were seen by President Trump as having a major influence and a real contribution to regional peace efforts.

"This meeting was productive in a fairly advanced sense in an effort to resolve the Middle East conflict, achieving peace and a ceasefire," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.
