Trump Conveys Commitment To Ending Gaza War In Front Of President Prabowo And Arab-Islamic Leaders

JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump expressed his commitment to ending the war in the Gaza Strip, while attending a limited multilateral meeting with leaders and representatives of member countries of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, on the sidelines of a series of UN General Assembly events.

President Prabowo was present at the meeting entitled "Multilateral Meeting on the Middle East" at the invitation of United States President Donald Trump.

The meeting, which was held in the Consultation Room of the United Nations Security Council (UN), New York, Tuesday local time, was attended on a limited basis by countries deemed to be able to help realize the peace process in the Middle East.

Speaking next to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President Trump stressed his determination to immediately stop the conflict and ensure the release of hostages.

"This will be a very important meeting. This meeting will bring together big leaders from a very important part of the world, namely the Middle East. And we want to end the war in Gaza. We will end it," said President Trump, opening the meeting, launching a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday, September 24.

President Trump also affirmed his confidence in the leaders who attended this meeting.

Apart from Indonesia, Turkey and the United States, Emir Qatari Syekh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani, King Jordan Abdullah II, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud were also present.

These countries are seen as President Trump as having a major influence and a real contribution to regional peace efforts.

Emir Qatari Syekh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani in turn expressed his gratitude to President Trump for the initiative to hold this meeting.

"The only reason we are here is to stop the war and bring home the hostages. And we rely on you and your leadership to end this war and help the Gaza people. The situation there is really, really very, very bad," said Emir Qatari who sits beside President Prabowo.

Closing the introductory session, President Trump reiterated the importance of this meeting for peace efforts in the Middle East.

"This is a very important meeting for me because we are going to end something that should never happen. Thank you very much, everyone. We really appreciate it," he said.

On the occasion of this meeting, President Prabowo conveyed Indonesia's readiness to support all efforts for peace, especially the delivery of peacekeepers for the stability of the situation in Gaza which will also allow the rebuilding of Gaza.

The meeting marks an important diplomatic move that is expected to result in a concrete agreement to stop the conflict, release of hostages, and restoration of peaceful life in Gaza and the Middle East region.

The meeting also discussed peace plans for Gaza, including support for the rebuilding of Gaza once peace is reached.
