In His Speech At UN, President Prabowo Urged World To Reject "Strong Do What They Want" Doctrine

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto during a speech at the general debate session of the 80th Assembly of the United Nations General Assembly (UN) at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, Tuesday, September 23, invited world countries to reject the "strong ones can do what they want" doctrine.

According to Prabowo, the United Nations (UN) was formed, because one of them is to reject such a doctrine.

"Thucydides warns: The strong can do what they want, while the weak must suffer", we must reject this doctrine. The UN exists to reject this doctrine. We must defend all, strong and weak. It is true that it is called true, not because it can be called so, but indeed so," Prabowo said while speaking at General Assembly Hall, United Nations Headquarters, New York, during the 80th Assembly of the United Nations.

Prabowo's statement refers to the growing unilateral actions of several countries that violate international law and the sovereignty of other countries, including the genocide currently carried out by the Israeli military against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

"We must not remain silent while the Palestinian people are treated unfairly, and cannot obtain legitimacy to speak in this room," President Prabowo said.

On the same occasion, Prabowo admitted that currently the world is filled with violence and hatred. Nevertheless, the President continued, everyone has the right to be safe, to be respected by his dignity, to be loved, and to pass on a better life to his children in the future.

"Our children are witnessing our choice today. They don't learn from textbooks, but from our choices," said the President.

Therefore, Prabowo again emphasized the important role of the United Nations in maintaining peace, upholding multilateralism, and welfare for all. "With a strong UN, we can build a world where the weak do not have to suffer, but the weak can live in a just world as it should," said the President.

"We all hope that state leaders in the world can show statesmanship, wisdom, be able to exercise restraint, and be humble, overcome hate, and mutual suspicion," continued President Prabowo.

In his speech at the 80th Assembly of the United Nations General Assembly, President Prabowo discussed a number of issues, including those related to Israel's genocide in Gaza, Palestine, and Indonesia's support for a two-state solution, the real threat of the impact of climate change and Indonesia's commitment to the transition to clean energy, the food crisis and Indonesia's steps to realize food security, and Indonesia's views on the important role of the United Nations.

The general debate session is the core event of the 80th Assembly of the United Nations General Assembly.
