AHM Calls Electric Motors Not Much Contribution To Revenue
JAKARTA - PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) said that currently electric motors have not made a significant contribution to the revenue of the two-wheeled vehicle manufacturer.
Moreover, said AHM General Manager Corporate Communication Ahmad Muhibbuddin, currently the number of electric motorcycles paving on the streets is not too much.
"Honestly, motorbikes are not big yet. Because there are not too many electric motorbikes. Friends, if you look at the field, on the streets, right, there are not many," said the man who was familiarly called Muhib when met by the media crew after the Astra Media Day 2025 event in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 23.
Muhib assessed that currently the penetration of electric motors is not as effective as electric cars. The reason is, when compared to the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), the distance from electric cars is still too different.
"There are calculations, yes. If one liter of gasoline can be used for the 60 (kilometers) let's say the most efficient, yes, on the motorbike it is 60 kilometers," he said.
"However, the electric motorcycle at one KWH is still worried for people to ride electric motorcycles. Maybe we run out of battery. That means, yes, it will take time," he continued.
He said that currently Astra Honda Motor does not set a specific target, but it will focus more on innovation.
"We don't set a specific target for electric motors, but we are trying how we can come with our products and services. We try to enter that level first," explained Muhib.

According to him, one of Astra Honda Motor's concerns and another motorcycle manufacturer is to keep marketing electric motorcycles, but still pay attention to the ICE business.
"Because after all, the business backbone is currently the ICE product, the conventional motorcycle. So, we try to get into this (electric motorbike) slowly, then we try to fulfill what consumers want, we hear, like I told you earlier," he explained.
Astra Honda Motor already has electric motorcycle product lines in Indonesia, including the series EM1 e, Honda ICON e and Honda CUV e.
