Dua Lipa Fires Manager Who Tried to Kick Kneecap Out of Glastonbury
JAKARTA - Dua Lipa has reportedly fired her longtime manager, David Levy. The termination of the partnership is said to be involved in a systematic effort to exclude Irish hip-hop group Kneecap from performing at Glastonbury 2025.
The Daily Mail revealed that Levy was the initiator of a "secret and confidential" letter addressed to festival founder Michael Eavis. The letter urged organizers to cancel Kneecap's performance for political reasons.
The leak of the letter sparked a swift reaction from Dua Lipa. A music industry source stated that the "Don't Start Now" singer immediately terminated her contract with Levy because he did not align with her principles.
"She confirmed that David Levy would no longer be involved in her music production or career," the source said. Dua strongly rejected any pressure methods used by her former manager.
Dua Lipa's commitment to the Palestinian cause has long been public knowledge. In May of last year, she openly condemned Israel's genocide in Gaza. She has also been active in solidarity actions criticizing British involvement.
Despite the pressure, Kneecap ultimately performed at Glastonbury last July. Police initially opened an investigation into the complaint, but closed it due to a lack of evidence of wrongdoing. Kneecap called it a form of "political intimidation disguised as law enforcement."
The Palestinian-Israeli conflict has escalated again since October 7, 2023. The latest data shows that the death toll in Gaza has approached 65,300, with the majority being women and children.
