Bluesky Changes Community Guidelines To Tighten Moderation Systems

JAKARTA Bluesky, a platform that is trying to compete with X, decided to tighten its moderation system. This change will be implemented through an update of Community Guidelines in effect on October 15.

This guideline update is the result of a community input filtering received for more than six months. Various suggestions from users have been reviewed and included in the latest version of Community Guidelines.

In guidelines that will take effect in the coming weeks, the rules will be presented with more structured and grouped into clearer categories. That way, users can better understand what is allowed and what is prohibited on the platform.

Bluesky will also adjust how to enforce their moderation policies. They will be faster in increasing account restriction measures for posts that violate the rules and lower conversation quality.

In addition, Bluesky will make it clear when content tends to violate guidelines. This is a first step for Bluesky to encourage more constructive interactions and reduce harassment content.

"We will focus more on encouraging constructive dialogue and enforcing our rules against inappropriate harassment and content," Bluesky said in a statement, quoted on Tuesday, September 23.

Community guidelines also get new parts for journalism, education, advocacy, and mental health content. Bluesky wants to reduce law enforcement uncertainty in these areas while maintaining freedom of expression.

Through this guideline update, Bluesky insists that they are trying to maintain basic protection against their users. That way, they can avoid various violent content, fraud, and exploitation.
