Indonesian Ministry Of Foreign Affairs: Global Recognition Of Palestine Is An Important Element
JAKARTA - The recognition of the Palestinian State is an important element in the peace process, said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcoming the steps taken by a number of countries to recognize the Palestinian state status.
The French president announced his country's recognition of the Palestinian State while speaking at the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, the series of High Level Week UN's 80th General Assembly Session at the United Nations Headquarters. France's move follows the British, Canadian, Australian and Portuguese recognition of the recognition of the Palestinian State on Sunday.
"Indonesia welcomes the decision of a number of countries that officially recognize the Palestinian State," Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Yvonne Leaves in a short message from New York to VOI.id, Tuesday, September 23.
"This move is a positive development in an attempt to end Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine and bring about a just and sustainable peace in the region," he said.
With France's recognition, a total of 154 of the 193 United Nations member countries have recognized the Palestinian State.
A number of other countries are expected to follow in France's footsteps on New York's time of Art Day, including Malta, Luxembourg, to Belgium.
"Indonesia encourages more and more countries to follow this step as a concrete form of implementation of the Two-State Solution," said Yvonne.
"Global recognition of Palestine is an important element that provides an equal status for Palestine in the peace process," he stressed.
President Prabowo Subianto, speaking at the same forum as President Macron called for the recognition of the Palestinian State, asserting that the two-state solution is the only solution to the peace and stability of Palestine, Israel and the region.
Appreciating countries that dare to take a stand to recognize the Palestinian State, President Prabowo said it was the right move on the historical side and called on other countries to follow suit immediately.
"History will not wait. We must recognize the Palestinian state now," said President Prabowo.
"Recognition of state status must mean peace. Acknowledging means a real opportunity to realize lasting peace. That must be a real peace for all parties," he said.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonion Guterres in his remarks at the same forum called on all countries to return to the two-state solution before it was too late.
"Palestinian state is the right, not a gift," he said.

It is known, the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution was held in accordance with the resolution of the General Assembly A/RES/79/81 dated December 3, 2024 and the decision of the General Assembly 79/573 B dated September 5, 2025.
The conference was chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud. President Prabowo received fifth speaking order after Jordan, Turkey, Brazil, and Portugal.
