The Indonesian Consulate General In Guanzhou Ensures That The Reni Reported Is Now In Safe Condition

JAKARTA - The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Guangzhou ensured that Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Sukabumi district, West Java, Reni Rahmawati (23) who were reportedly held captive in China were in good health and safe condition.

"Currently, the victim's condition, namely RR (Reni Rahmawati) is healthy and safe. He is in the city of Quanzhou, Fujian province. The victim did not experience physical but psychological violence because her husband threatened to be beaten if he did not want to have sexual relations," said the Indonesian Consul General in Guangzhou Ben Perkasa Drajat as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 22.

Previously, it was reported that Reni's mother, Emalia, met the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, in Bandung, Friday (19/9) to complain that her son was a victim of the Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) in China.

The case was first revealed when Reni sent a text message to her mother. In the message, the victim admitted that he was in China and being held captive.

He was reportedly used as an outlet for lust, until his family was asked to prepare a ransom of Rp. 200 million to be able to return to their homeland.

In previous reports, Reni said that Reni received a job offer in China with a salary of around Rp. 15 million - 20 million per month from someone on social media so that she wanted to follow directions to take care of her passport in Bogor. Reni was then taken to Jakarta until she went to China and then married a man.

"The Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou has contacted the victim several times and at this time her husband has also been separated from the victim at our request to the police in Fujian. So the victim is under the protection of the Indonesian government," added Ben.

Ben suspects that Reni has been a victim of an order bride syndicate that has happened several times in China.

"It is not yet called the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO), the police in Indonesia need to carry out an investigation in Sukabumi and then coordinate with the police in Fujian," said Ben. The Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou, said Ben, has also communicated with Reni's family in West Java.

Reni is known to have met a man in Cianjur through social media Facebook. The man claimed to be able to help Reni to find a job in China.

Reni was then invited to Bogor and then held for 2 weeks in one house. Then Reni was taken to Jakarta to meet an agent from China who claimed to be employing Reni in China.

A few days later, Reni was invited to a place to attend the consent procession with a Chinese man named Tu Chao Cai. Reni was also threatened with being held back if she didn't want to admit that the two people beside her were Reni's original parents.

Reni was also made a passport at the Bogor Immigration Office. Reni was then taken to China using a tourist visa and landed at Xiamen International Airport, Fujian province. He was taken by Tu Chao Cai to an office to get a Chinese marriage book.

During his marriage, Reni was asked to have sex with Tu Chao Cai but he refused and asked to be sent back to Indonesia so that Tu Chao Cai threatened Reni to replace all the money she had spent to bring Reni to China.

Reni, who can't speak Mandarin, also communicates daily using tools such as cell phones with translator features. Reni was often locked in the house and was once invited out and then forced to smile every time she was introduced as a wife by Tu Chao Cai.

On Thursday (18/9) the Indonesian Consulate General in Guangzhou submitted a plan to return Reni to Indonesia.

The police in Fujian province are currently still conducting further investigations into the case.
