Britain Calls Recognition Of Palestinian State Israel's Only Security Solution

JAKARTA - Britain says the recognition of the Palestinian State is the only solution to Israel's security, a viable and fair solution to the conflict between the two sides, but recognition alone is not enough to end the alarming situation in the Gaza Strip.

"Steps to recognize the Palestinian State can encourage the normalization of Israeli relations in the region," a British minister told The National.

British Middle Eastern and North African Minister Hamish Falconer said the historic move of Palestinian state recognition was part of a broader effort to address the threat to a two-state solution to the war waged by Israel in Gaza.

Britain wants to ensure a shift back to this principle can convince Israel to build its relations with neighboring countries so that they can participate in regional security, such as relations that have been established under the Abrahamic Agreement.

Falconer said the path to peace would be maintained thanks to the announcement of this confession.

"The UK will continue to work closely with allies to support the democratic Palestinian Authority, tackle terrorism in the region, and advance full normalization in the Middle East," he told The National, as quoted September 22.

Britain's delegation at a UN General Assembly meeting in New York this week will urge its colleagues about the framework diplomats have developed to end the war and move towards a two-state solution.

The expansion of the Abrahamic Agreement remains the ambition of the United States government, which secured the pact between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain during the first term of US President Donald Trump.

"As Britain and the international community have repeatedly stated, the two-state solution remains the only viable and fair solution to this conflict," Falconer said.

"This is the only solution and will allow Israel to be safe and secure to coexist with a viable and sovereign Palestinian state," he continued.

"With a two-state threatened solution, it is time to act, guard the path to peace," Falconer said.

"However, acknowledgment alone will not end the alarming situation in Gaza. We continue to call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and immediate aid deliveries to those who need it," he said.

"The UK will continue to work closely with allies to support the democratic Palestinian Authority, tackle terrorism in the region, and advance full normalization in the Middle East," Falconer added.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Palestinian recognition in a video message on Sunday, highlighting the need to keep hopes alive for a two-state solution based on full negotiations between Israel and Palestine.

Falconer has been discussing the shift from the model underlying the Middle East Peace Process for decades, warning extremists on both sides want a total victory over the other, which is basically one country with full control over the entire region.

"It's not going to work, there are two parties there," he said.

While British officials have urged negotiations and ceasefires, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has intensified military attacks. Falconer warned Israel "rejecting the steps we think need to take".

Britain anticipates Israel's retaliation after the announcement, with Falconer warning "the situation is getting worse in the West Bank".
