Navy Rescues 27 Crew KM Sinar Mas From Burning In North Natuna
JAKARTA - KRI Sultan Thaha Syaifudin-375 (STS-375) rescued crew KM Sinar Mas that caught fire in the North Natuna Sea, Saturday, May 15, this morning.
The rescue process was carried out while the ship was conducting sovereignty and security patrols in the North Natuna sea.
At that time, visually visible through binocular binoculars there was a thick puff of smoke soaring from a fishing boat type floating trawler. KRI approached the site and extinguished the fire assisted by another fishing boat that was not far from the scene.
The large amount of flammable material from the fishing boat KM Sinar Mas made of wood, resulting in the blackout process lasted more than three hours.
"KRI STS-375 managed to save 27 crew floating trawler type fishing boat, KM Sinar Mas which suffered a fire in the North Natuna Sea but unfortunately three of them suffered moderate burns", said Marine Lieutenant Colonel (P) Tony Priyo recounting the chronological events in his written statement, Saturday, May 15.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The wreck of an underwater building was towed to the Ranai Navy base for the purposes of deprecation of the cause of the fire.
While the entire crew was evacuated to KRI STS-375. They were then taken to a hospital in ranai area for medical examination before returning to their respective homes.
This action was then appreciated by Commander Koarmada I Rear Admiral TNI Abdul Rasyid K. He said, this is his soldiers are always present in the community and benefit the sea users.
"Of course we are sorry for the disaster that happened to our brother this floating trawler fisherman, but we are also grateful there were no fatalities in the incident", he said.
