TikTok Deal Response, ByteDance Promises To Follow Applicable Rules

JAKARTA The future of TikTok in America has finally progressed and it seems that the platform will continue to operate. This deal also received a positive response from ByteDance.

The parent company of TikTok spoke up after news of the awarding of one of seven seats circulated. ByteDance, as reported by Reuters, will occupy one of the seven council members for TikTok's new entity in the US.

"We thank President Xi Jinping and President Donald J. Trump for their efforts to maintain TikTok in the United States," said ByteDance spokesperson via TikTok's official website, reported on Monday, September 22.

ByteDance also expressed its commitment to keeping TikTok in the US. The Chinese company insists on continuing to follow applicable laws. That way, TikTok can provide data protection as expected by America.

"ByteDance will work in accordance with applicable laws to ensure TikTok remains available to American users via US TikTok," the spokesperson added.

At the end of Joe Biden's tenure, TikTok was urged to withdraw from America if ByteDance did not want to sell the video platform. This rule was made because America was afraid that its user data would be misused by the Chinese government.

However, in the era of US President Donald Trump, TikTok continues to be maintained in America. He even bought up the divestment deadline to provide an opportunity for TikTok while waiting for the deal with China to take place.

In the new agreement agreed, TikTok will be monitored by seven board members consisting of ByteDance and six senior officials from the White House. It appears that this is the result of an agreement between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Trump by telephone.

The two are planned to meet again in South Korea in the next six weeks. So far, China has not provided a specific statement regarding the results of their agreement with the US.
