From Binjai To Agriculture Better: Daeng Erwin's Story And His Spirit
Erwin, or who is familiarly called Daeng Erwin, is a 41-year-old farmer from South Binjai, Binjai City, North Sumatra. Since 2015, Erwin has been pursuing the world of agriculture with sincerity, after previously learning a lot from family and friends who were closer to farming.
With a strong determination, Daeng Erwin now manages 1.5 hectares of land, growing various commodities such as sweet corn, long beans, cucumber, bitter melon, gambas, and terong. His courage to try new things makes his agricultural products more developed from year to year.
However, what makes it different is not only the harvest he gets, but his attitude that is open and willing to share knowledge. He is known as a figure who does not hesitate to guide other farmers to dare to try superior seeds and more effective cultivation techniques. From small discussions on land to direct invitations, Daeng Erwin consistently transmits the spirit that farming should not run alone.
"If there is useful knowledge, it is better for us to share it. The problem is that if it is only used alone, the benefits are limited. But if we invite other people, the results can be felt by many people," he said, quoted on Saturday, September 20.
This spirit is not in vain. Now, there are about 20 farmers around him who are inspired by his suggestions and invitations. In fact, Daeng Erwin often makes his land a place to study together, so that other farmers can see firsthand how he grows and cares for plants.
One of the most memorable experiences was when he planted the Oyong Hybrid ANGGUN TAVI F1 from the Red Arrow Cap as many as 500 plants and managed to harvest up to 5 tons. In addition, he also planted 800-kilogram Long Beans of Guarda varieties from the Red Arrow Cap, which produces about 3,200 kilograms.
"This result I have further strengthens the belief that with the seeds superior to the Red Arrow Cap and proper care, the same land can provide better results," he said.
For its consistency and contribution, Daeng Erwin has now received an award as a Harvest Master from the Red Arrow Cap. This title not only reflects abundant harvests, but also its dedication in providing benefits to fellow farmers.
