Singkawang Regional Government Brings Synergy To Support Airport Operations
SINGKAWANG - Singkawang City Government and Bengkayang Regency Government, West Kalimantan, have agreed to strengthen cross-regional synergy in supporting the operational continuity of Singkawang Airport which has started operating regularly since March 2025.
Singkawang Mayor Tjhai Chui Mie conveyed the importance of support from the Bengkayang Regency Government, both institutionally and community participation, so that Singkawang Airport can provide broad benefits for the surrounding area.
"This airport is here not only for Singkawang, but also for Bengkayang and other surrounding districts. With the great potential that Bengkayang has, we are sure that the airport can accelerate mobility, open investment opportunities, and move the wheels of the economy on Earth Sebalo," said Tjhai Chui Mie during a visit in Bengkayang, Saturday.
He added that cooperation between the two regions is not only limited to the air transportation sector, but can also be expanded to the fields of tourism, trade, agriculture, and regional infrastructure development.
"We hope that this synergy does not stop at airport operations, but develops in the form of other collaborations for the sake of mutual progress," said Tjhai Chui Mie.
He also appreciated the open attitude of the Bengkayang Regency Government. He emphasized that cross-regional support is the key so that Singkawang Airport actually functions optimally as a driving force for economic development and regional connectivity in West Kalimantan.
"In the future, cooperation can be expanded to the tourism, plantation, agriculture, and trade sectors. That way, airports are not just transportation infrastructure, but become an entry point for regional investment and economic growth," he said.
Meanwhile, Bengkayang Regent Sebastianus Darwis expressed his full support for the operation of Singkawang Airport.
He assessed that the existence of the airport will have a big impact on the people of Bengkayang, especially in six sub-districts which are directly adjacent to Singkawang City with a population of around 80 thousand people.
The Bengkayang Regency Government strongly supports the existence of Singkawang Airport. In addition to opening new air transportation access, this airport will spur regional economic growth. We are ready to follow up on this support through the MoU, including encouraging employees and the public to take advantage of these facilities," said Darwis.
According to him, the trend of using flight services from Singkawang Airport by the Bengkayang community shows positive prospects. This potential is believed to strengthen the sustainability of airport operations.
"This collaboration not only benefits Singkawang, but also Bengkayang. Therefore, let's support together for the progress of the region," he said.
Darwis hopes that the Singkawang 'Bengkaka collaboration will be able to accelerate the realization of Singkawang Airport as one of the vital infrastructures that support regional development and increase regional competitiveness.
