TNI Ensures Yalimo's Situation Is Conducive After Chaos

Head of the Army Information Service Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana stated that the situation in Yalimo Regency, Papua Mountains, is currently in a conducive condition after a dispute between students sparked a commotion.

"The initial problem was not a big thing, it was just a dispute between school students. However, because the communication on the settlement was less complete, the problem developed more widely. Currently the situation is conducive," Wahyu said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, September 20.

He said a number of TNI AD soldiers who had been reported to have suffered injuries in the incident had now improved their condition.

According to him, this experience is an important lesson about the importance of communication and the role of community leaders and religious leaders in reducing potential conflicts.

Wahyu emphasized that the steps taken by the Indonesian Army in helping security were always in accordance with statutory regulations, including military operations other than war.

"The TNI is only tasked with assisting the police and local governments if requested. Security remains the domain of related institutions, the TNI only strengthens as needed," he said.
