Knowing The Minimalism Career Phenomenon That Is Often Implemented By Gen Z

JAKARTA - Generation Z or Gen Z which was born between 1997 and 2012 has now entered the world of work. With Gen Z getting more and more already working, now a new phenomenon has emerged in the world of work, namely career minimalism.

This phenomenon emerged in response to previous generaic experiences, especially Millennials, who are willing to sacrifice time and energy to work ending up facing an economic crisis that has an impact on mental and physical.

Gen Z sees this fact as taking a bold step by rejecting it. For Gen Z, work must be balanced with personal life, and not too much to pursue a position.

Quoting from Up Worthy, on Saturday, September 20, data said 68 percent of Gen Z workers would not pursue a managerial position unless there was clear compensation, such as higher wages.

"Gen Z is more willing to embrace a flexible mindset than the older generation. Meanwhile, the previous generation has often prioritized promotions," said Career Pivot Strategis in Glassdoor, Janel Abrahami.

Gen Z is more looking for a career match in the form of a sustainable path, where they can get opportunities that suit their needs at that time. They can accept lower positions for a more creative role, or switch industries, to the so-called minimalism careers.

However, even though it is called a minimalism career, Gen Z's spirit remains high. As many as 57 percent of Gen Z's workers have side rushes or side jobs, more than any previous generation.

Not only that, Gen Z's balance of life and work is a necessity. Choosing their job is very much about work-life balance, even compared to high salaries.

Meski demikian, tidak berarti Gen Z meninggalkan pekerjaan. Sebaliknya, mereka mendefinisikan ambigusi melalui career minimalism. Jika Gen Z merasa tidak didukung dalam mencapai work-life balance, mereka mungkin menjadi kurang termotiviasi atau mulai mencari peluang yang lebih sesuai dengan nilai dan gaya hidup mereka, pungkasnya.
