Feel Painful After Having Sex, Normal Or A Sign Of Health Problems?

JAKARTA - vaginal pain after sex turns out to be more common than many people imagine. But is this normal? The answer is not always.

Sometimes mild discomfort can arise due to friction or position, but if the pain is continuous or feels intense, there could be an underlying health problem.

"Women should never ignore your sexual health. Understanding the causes of pain can help protect intimate and reproductive health," said dr. Kaishreen Khan, Consultant of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Motherhood Hospitals, Kharadi, Pune, India, quoted from the Herzindagi page.

The following is the general cause of vaginal pain after having sex.

1. Lack of lubricants

One of the most common causes is the lack of natural lubricant. If the vaginal area is too dry, friction when in contact can cause a feeling of pain, irritation or burning.

"Using a lubricant recommended by a doctor can help reduce discomfort," explained dr. Khan

2. Infection

Fungal infections, bacterial vaginosis, or sexually transmitted infections (IMS) can cause pain, burning, and itching after intercourse. This condition needs to be treated immediately so as not to cause complications.

3. Hormone Changes

The low level of estrogen, for example during menopause or after giving birth, can cause a dry vagina so that sexual intercourse feels painful. If this is often the case, it is likely related to hormonal fluctuations.

4. Robekan or vaginal Injury

Sexual intercourse that is too rough or lasts for a long time can cause small rips or irritation of the vaginal tissue, which triggers pain afterward.

5. Panggul Health Issues

Conditions such as endometrosis, pneumonia (PID), or ovarian cysts can also cause pain, both during and after intercourse. If the pain is deep, sharp, or lasts a long time, immediately consult a gynecologist.

6. Allergy Reaction

Some women may be allergic to certain condoms, lubricants, or hygiene products. This reaction can trigger inflammation and pain. If the symptoms always appear after using certain products, you should stop using and check with a doctor.

"Registration of a persistent or very intense vagina should not be ignored. Timely diagnosis can prevent more serious problems", said Dr. Khan.

Uncomfortability is mild once in a while may be natural. However, if the pain is severe, it often repeats, or interferes with daily activities, it's not normal. Listen to your body, record the symptoms, and don't hesitate to talk openly with a doctor. That is an important step to maintain sexual health as well as reproduction.
