Polda Metro Denies Activists Detained From Eating Strike

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya denied reports about activists being detained related to rioting cases and incitement to a hunger strike.

The activists in question are Syahdan Husein, Delpedro Marhaen, and a number of other activists.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Brigadier General Ade Ary Syam Indradi stated that based on the results of the examination of the conditions of the detainees, there was no action as reported.

"It's not true that there is an issue or information about a hunger strike," Ade told reporters, Friday, September 19.

In addition, he also denied the assumption that the rights of the detainees were not fulfilled. Ade emphasized that the Polda Metro Jaya is always committed to fulfilling the rights of all parties, including the suspect.

This is because the fulfillment of the rights of suspects or detainees has been regulated and must be fulfilled according to the rules.

"The commitment of the Polda Metro Jaya continues to provide services to the rights of suspects in health, the right of suspects in communicating with families, the right of suspects in worship, we really pay attention to and will definitely fulfill it," said Ade.

The rebuttal also answered the Ministry of Human Rights (KemenHAM) asking the Polda Metro Jaya to facilitate access to visits to activists detained after anarchist demonstration a few days ago.

According to the Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance at the Ministry of Human Rights, Munafrizal Manan, the status of the suspect in incitement to these activists did not immediately eliminate their right to receive a visit.

"If the disclosure (of the visit access) has actually become a basic principle," said Munafrizal.
