CL Allegedly Managed 5 Years Of Illegal Self-Egency, In Examination

JAKARTA - Singer CL reportedly runs an agency he founded himself without registering officially to make his agency illegal. CL founded Very Cherry in 2020 to manage his career solo.

Citing TenAsia, the company failed to register in the business sector which is an obligation for agency companies in South Korea. The Law on Popular Culture and Art Development in Korea noted that agencies that manage cultural and artistic affairs are required to register for their businesses.

If this is not fulfilled, then they could be imprisoned for two years or pay a fine of up to 20 million Won. Businesses in the cultural sector including exclusive contracts, without registration will be called illegal businesses.

Friday, September 19, agency Very Cherry responded to the report by admitting the report.

We recently confirmed that our agency was not registered and realized the seriousness of this issue. The related registration process is currently being accelerated," said Very Cherry as CL's agency.

CL is not the only artist involved in this controversy. Several singers such as Ok Joo Hyun, Sung Si Kyung, and Kim Wan Sun who own individual agencies are also said to have not registered their companies.

Actor Kang Dong Won is also reported to have experienced a similar controversy. Now, the case with CL is being handled at the Yongsang Police, while the Kim Wan Sun case is being handled at the Dongbu Police.

Due to the many cases like this, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of South Korea appealed to all public figures who have individual agencies to immediately register their businesses until December 31. During that period, the ministry also adopted legal procedures and requirements.
