Indonesia Affirms Israel Violates 1948 Genocide Convention
JAKARTA - Indonesia firmly rejects and condemns all forms of Israeli annexation in the Palestinian territories, emphasizing the actions taken by the country in the Gaza Strip in violation of the Genocide Convention.
Israel began land operations into Gaza City on Tuesday, following a series of attacks carried out last month, after the country's security cabinet approved the takeover of Gaza City.
Israel issued an order to evacuate the entire population of Gaza City, warning of a major attack by its troops.
"Israeli efforts forced Palestinians to leave their lands, over and over again. In addition, the places that should have been evacuation destinations were actually targeted for attacks," said Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengang in a short message to VOI.id, as quoted on Friday, September 19.
"This action clearly violates the 1948 Genocide Convention which includes mass killings, the application of destructive conditions, prevention of birth, and forced transfer of children," he said.
Israel argues the attack to take control of Gaza City is part of a plan to defeat the Palestinian militant group Hamas once and for all.
The attack came under fire from the United Nations, humanitarian agencies, and countries in the world. The attack also followed an attack targeting the Hamas delegation in Doha, Qatar last week.
"Indonesia strongly rejects and condemns all forms of full Israeli annexation of Palestinian territory and other countries in the region," said Yvonne.
"This step is not only a real violation of international law, but also contrary to efforts to realize peace based on the Two-State Solution," he said.

It is known that the United Nations Commission of investigation concluded on Tuesday that Israel committed genocide in the Gaza Strip, Palestine and senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had incited these actions.
The commission cites examples including murder scales, aid barriers, forced transfers, and destruction of fertility centers to support their genocide findings, adding their opinions to human rights groups and others who have reached the same conclusion.
