Honor Prepare Folding Phones With 200MP Camera, New Standard On Premium Line?
JAKARTA - Honor seems to be preparing to raise standards in the world of premium smartphones. The latest report says the Chinese company plans to equip all of its top-class phones including future foldable devices such as Magic V6 with 200MP cameras.
Usually, smartphone manufacturers use different camera configurations for each model, with cost considerations as one of the main factors. However, rumors from Digital Chat Station tips reveal that Honor does not hesitate to pay extra fees in order to present a super large resolution camera in their flagship line.
In fact, the leak claims that the Honor Magic8 Ultra will be equipped with a periscope 200MP telephoto camera. Honor has reportedly ordered a large number of sensors to be installed also in Magic V6, the newly launched Magic V5 successor, and is scheduled to arrive in 2026.

The question is, is 200MP really needed?
On the one hand, high-resolution cameras clearly offer more sharp details, are suitable for cropping purposes without losing significant quality, or printing photos in large sizes such as posters. However, megapixel is not everything. Factors such as lighting, composition, to sensor size often better determine the quality of the photo.
Large sensors, such as those used by DSLR cameras, allow more light to enter so that image results have a better dynamic range, details on dark and bright areas are more well maintained, and bokeh effects are more natural. Other manufacturers, such as Xiaomi, have even partnered with Sony to bring 1-inch sensors on their smartphones a step that many observers think is more significant than just adding megapixels.
Even so, the 200MP camera remains a strong selling point, especially for periscope telephotos that do require a large resolution to maintain detail at long distances. It's just a matter of how Honor takes advantage of this technology so that it doesn't just look tempting on paper, but also gives tangible results that can approach the quality of a professional camera.
