Dito Asks Erick Thohir Not To Prioritize PSSI Only

Dito Ariotedjo asked Erick Thohir not only to prioritize the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) after he assumed the position of Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora).

Erick was shifted from the position of Minister of SOEs to occupy the position of Minister of Youth and Sports, replacing Dito in the reshuffle of the Red and White Cabinet Volume III carried out by President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Dito in the handover of the position with Erick hopes that Erick will not be allowed to arrange PSSI, the place where he holds the position of General Chair.

"Although Mr. Erick is the chairman of PSSI, hopefully other sports will be considered even higher. If PSSI is already at the top and there is only a line to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, that is proof of Pak Erick's success," said Dito.

After being officially inaugurated as Menpora, Erick's position as PSSI General Chair became a big question. Many parties consider the former Minister of SOEs to be as good as leaving the position and focusing on the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The decision to resign from the position of Chairman of PSSI is considered in order to avoid conflicts of interest. The reason is, Erick's new position is directly related to the world of sports if he is at the Ministry of SOEs.

Erick emphasized that all decisions related to the dual position of Menpora-Ketum PSSI will be submitted to the International Football Federation (FIFA). He also emphasized that he would remain fair to all sports.

"Never question my alignment with sports because my track record in sports is very good. I and Deputy Minister Taufik Hidayat have fought desperately," he said.

Previously, sports observer Kesit Budi Handoyo had firmly said that Erick should resign from the position of Chairman of PSSI in order to avoid conflicts of interest.

He emphasized that it seemed very funny that Erick had to supervise himself because he had two positions in the field that intersected.

"It's different if he is the Minister of SOEs, he doesn't have direct contact with football matters. BUMN policies are not included in the policy regarding football, so it's different when he becomes Menpora," he said.
