Deputy Minister Of Industry Faisol Strengthens RI-Russia Industrial And Investment Cooperation Through BRICS Forum

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) wants to strengthen strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Russia in the industrial sector. This was also part of the discussion on the 2025 BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) agenda which was held in Xiamen, China, on 15-17 September 2025.

Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza was present at the forum, accompanied by the Director General of Resilience, Region and International Industrial Access (KPAII) having held a bilateral meeting with Vice Minister of Industry and Trade Russian Federation Aleksei Vladimirovich Gruzdev.

Faisol revealed that both parties discussed strengthening industrial cooperation, especially in strategic sectors. One of the main agendas for discussion is the finalization of a number of memorandums of understanding (MoU) that have been agreed upon at previous meetings and one of them in the shipping industry.

In addition to opportunities for industrial cooperation, the meeting also discussed investment plans that could be developed further. Among other things, the infrastructure sector that can support the industrial sector, including nuclear power plants, rail rail networks in the archipelago and gas production for industry.

"The discussion also discussed the potential for cooperation in the aluminum industry and the development of industrial estates. The collaboration is wider, not only to strengthen national industrial capacity, but also to support the development of an inclusive global industrial ecosystem," said Faisol in a written statement, Wednesday, September 17.

In addition to these sectors, Indonesia also discussed opportunities to increase cooperation in the fertilizer industry sector, because Russia through large companies, such as Uralchem, Uralkali and PhosAgro, is committed to increasing the supply of fertilizers to Indonesia.

This step is expected to strengthen food security while supporting the productivity of the national agricultural sector.

In addition, Indonesia also conveyed its readiness to become Partner Country at INNOPROM 2026 in Russia. This step is part of a national industrial transformation strategy towards a high-tech, global competitive and export-oriented industrial base.

The government will also officially convey and coordinate with Russia in preparation for the implementation of the 2026 INOPROM.

In the field of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, Indonesia expressed its support for partnerships with Russia, especially through technology transfers and the establishment of joint ventures.

This collaboration is considered strategic to strengthen domestic industrial capacity, introduce innovative products and encourage investment to benefit the two countries.

Cooperation is also open in the metallurgical sector. The Indonesian government welcomes the interest of Russian companies to explore opportunities in this field, including encouraging the transfer of sustainability-oriented technology.

On the other hand, the shipbuilding industry is one of the important focuses. Indonesia is pushing for the acceleration of the completion and signing of the MoU aimed at strengthening shipbuilding cooperation between the two countries. Indonesia is open to various forms of partnership that contribute to the progress of the national shipping industry.

Then, Indonesia and Russia are also exploring cooperation in the field of crisis. Indonesia supports the cooperation plan and appreciates Russia's support, including the training that has been provided for two Indonesian laboratory officers in September 2024 as part of scientific cooperation.

As for the economy, Indonesia-Russia relations show a positive trend. Indonesia's total non-oil and gas bilateral trade with Russia throughout 2024 reached 3.3 billion US dollars, an increase of 13.38 percent since 2020.

From this figure, the value of Indonesia's exports to Russia was recorded at 3.3 billion US dollars in 2024, with superior products in the form of rubber and its derivatives, coffee, chocolate, tea, footwear, electronic components and chemical products and their derivatives.

In addition to trading, Russia's total investment in Indonesia in 2024 will reach US$262.7 million. This increase shows Russia's role as one of the important investor countries in Indonesia and reflects great potential for further investment development in the future.
