Trent Alexander-Arnold Absent Two Months After Getting Injured In The Champions League

JAKARTA - Trent Alexander-Arnold was replaced just five minutes after Real Madrid faced Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, after suffering an injury.

The right-back fell two minutes earlier at the Santiago Bernabeu, holding his thigh, after a while controlling the ball.

Alexander-Arnold - who joined Real Madrid from Liverpool in the summer - was replaced by club captain Dani Carvajal.

According to ESPN reports, Alexander-Arnold is in danger of being absent for about two months (six to eight weeks) after suffering a hamstring injury.

This means that he has to be sidelined in Madrid's Derby against Atletico Madrid, and will most likely not be ready on time for El Clasico against Barcelona.

Recovery time can be shortened due to former Liverpool's good physical condition, but they don't want to take any risks.

"After tests carried out today by Real Madrid's medical services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a femoris bisep muscle injury on his left foot. The latest information will follow," Real Madrid said in a statement on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Alexander-Arnold was not included by Thomas Tuchel for the England match in September 2025. The hamstring injury not only ruled him out of his next training camp but could also prevent him from returning to Anfield with Real Madrid in the fourth match of the Champions League.

The right-back ended 20 years of his time with Liverpool in the summer, but was previously scheduled to return to Anfield in a Real Madrid costume on November 4, 2025.

Alexander-Arnold have started in three of Real Madrid's five games in all competitions so far this season.

"It's a very good competition (between the two players). I'm happy to have two such players in every position, who want to show their abilities. This is very good for the squad," said coach Xabi Alonso last month.

Alexander-Arnold's teammate in the England National Team, Jude Bellingham, returned to Real Madrid squad for the match against Marseille, for the first time this season after undergoing shoulder surgery in July 2025.

However, Bellingham remained on the bench as Real Madrid started their Champions League campaign with a win.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid managed to secure three points in the first match of the Champions League against Marseille 2-1 through Kylian Mbappe's two penalty goals.

In Lieu of Alexander-Arnold, Carvajal was sent off by the referee in the 72nd minute for heading up the opposing goalkeeper.
