Erick Thohir Regarding The Substitute Of The Minister Of SOEs: Wait For The President's Decision

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Erick Thohir to serve as Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora). Currently, the position of Minister of SOEs is still vacant after being abandoned by Erick Thohir.

Regarding his successor, Erick said that it would be completely the decision of President Prabowo Subianto.

"If the SOE itself has a Plt, we will wait for the president's decision, the Minister of State Secretary later," he told reporters at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 17.

When asked whether he would replace his position as one of the Deputy Ministers of SOEs, Erick admitted that he did not know about it.

There are three deputy ministers of SOEs, namely Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Donny Oskaria and Aminuddin Ma'ruf.

"Wow, I don't know. I don't know. That's the president's prerogative," he said.

As previously reported, Erick Thohir was officially appointed to serve as the new Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) by President Prabowo Subianto in the Revised Cabinet Volume II. He replaced Dito Ariotedjo.

The 55-year-old businessman was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto along with a number of other ministers at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, evening WIB.

Erick was previously the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN). However, he had to be released from that position before occupying his new seat.

Apart from being the Minister of SOEs, Erick is also the General Chairperson of PSSI for the 2023-2027 term of service. However, the position of the Minister of Youth and Sports forced him to leave the position.

The position of Minister of Youth and Sports has been vacant since the previous minister Dito Ariotedjo was hit by a raid on September 8 along with five other ministers.
